Biography
Magician
Sean Masterson became interested in his craft at the age of 7 when
he received a deck of T.V. Magic Cards for his birthday. At 12 he
made his first public performance at the Helen Plum Library in Lombard,
IL. Dozens of library gigs later, he won Chicagos Junior Magician
of the Year award.
His
performances have always reflected his dual interest in magic and
theater leading him to study acting at Illinois State University.
While there he picked up a 2nd major in French which explains his
appearances at Festimagic in Paris, The International Theater Festival
of Grenoble, and his French wife.
His
fascination with both magic and theater have figured into the creation
of magic routines based on The Frog Prince tale, Hamlet, Sam Spade
and a short story by Jorge
Luis Borges that begins with a member of the audience chained to
a metal box.
And
while known as a Chicago magician performing at corporate and social
events with clients such as Abbott Laboratories and The Chicago
Architecture Foundation, he continues to produce original theatrical
productions. Conjuring Time - a magic show with a
cosmic dimension ran for 5 sold out weeks at the Live Bait Theater
and was hailed as "highly entertaining" by the Chicago
Tribune. In 1995 his solo show Magic Tales ran for 2 months at Sheffields
Theater Space. He performed with Phil Johnson in Moonie and Masterson
at Shattered Globe Theater and in The Christmas Brothers at Bailiwick
Theater.
As
a childrens magician he has performed his show Magic Play
for hundreds of special events and birthday parties.
Sean
lives in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago with his wife Marick
and their daughter Maya.
